World Golf Championships

The 2018 World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play is upon us, and the field includes heaps of AJGA Alumni. This is the second of four World Golf Championships events in 2018. The first of the events, the Mexico Championship, was won by Phil Mickelson earlier this month, finishing 16-under-par.

The events are taking place at Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas. This Pete Dye design boasts rolling hills, picturesque views, creeks, and Colorado River lakes. Holes such as the par 3, number 17 – “Windy Cove” are sure to test the strong field of players.

Over 25 AJGA Alumni are competing in the event this week, making up over 40% of the field. The long list of alumni to watch includes Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, and Yuta Ikeda of Japan.

This tournament has a rich history in raising funds for local Austin Charities including the Austin Parks Foundation, The Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs of the Austin Area, The First Tee of Greater Austin, Helping Hand Home for Children, and Keep Austin Beautiful. In 2017 alone, the World Golf Championships – Dell Technologies Match Play raised over 1.1 million for local charities.

The third and fourth legs of the events, the Bridgestone Invitational,  and the HSBC Champions, take place in August of 2018 in Akron, Ohio, and October of 2018 in Shanghai, China – a home to many members of the JGTA.
