Battling For a Spot in The Masters and Open Championship
The Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship has come to conclusion at Sheshan International Golf Club, the host venue of the JGTA’s season-ending Championship Invitational, taking place June 16-19, 2020. Heading into the final round, 12 current or former AJGA members sat in the top-20. For those who keep an eye on AJGA news, a few of the players towards the top of the leaderboard were easily recognizable.
AJGA Champion, University of South Florida Bull and 2015/2016, first-team Rolex Junior All-American Won Jun Lee is T5, was one-shot off of the lead heading into the final round of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship. USC Trojan and 2017 Asia-Pacific Amateur Champion Lin Yuxin sat T7, just 2-shots off of the lead. Six-time AJGA Champion and second-overall on the Rolex AJGA Rankings, Karl Vilips, sat T11 at 4-under-par heading into the final round. Finally, sitting at T16 was 10th overall Rolex AJGA Ranked Bo Jin as well as AJGA Champion Hiroshi Tai.
Who took home the trophy? It was nonother than 2017 Asia-Pacific Amateur Champion and current USC Trojan Lin Yuxin. Lin came up big with back to back birdies in the first playoff in tournament history to win over world number 1 amateur Takumi Kanaya.
