Justin Thomas Junior Championship - AJGA Weekend Recap
This past weekend played host to four AJGA tournaments including the Strategic Communications/Justin Thomas Junior Championship presented by Phocus, the AJGA Junior at Yolo Fliers, the AJGA Preview at River Ridge (Ages 12-15), and the AJGA Preview at Carolina Trace.
The Strategic Communications/Justin Thomas Junior Championship presented by Phocus ended in a sudden-death playoff in the Girl’s Division. Alyssa Montgomery (2019) of Knoxville, Tennessee bested Marissa Wenzler (2019) of Dayton, Ohio after making birdie on the first playoff hole. Montgomery finished at four-over-par for the tournament. Austin Greaser (2019) of Vandalia, Ohio won the Boy’s Division. Greaser finished four-under-par for the tournament.
The AJGA Junior at Yolo Fliers ended in a sudden-death playoff as well. Alexander Yang (2021) of Carlsbad, California, William Mirams (2019) of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, and Ty Griggs (2020) of Manteca, California were tied through 36. Yang took the title on the second hole of the playoff and finished the tournament at four-under-par. In the Girl’s Division, University of Michigan verbal commit Monet Chun (2019) of (Canada) Richmond Hill, Ontario won with a tournament total of four-under-par 140. This is Chun’s first AJGA victory.
Seo Yoon Choi (2021) (South Korea) of Fullerton, California won the AJGA Preview at River Ridge (Ages 12-15) after shooting 70-75 for a tournament total of one-over-par 145. Carson Kim (2023) of Fullerton, California, and Rei Harashima (2022) of Chula Vista, California were crowned co-medalists after shooting scores of 69-74 and 71-72, respectively. “This is my first big victory. The first of many” said Harashima.
Phoebe Carles (2020) of Clinton, South Carolina won the Girl’s Division at the AJGA Preview at Carolina Trace. Carles carded scores of 77-70. Her two-under-par final round put her four shots ahead of second-place finisher Chloe Holder (2021) of Williamston, South Carolina. Ayush Bodhale (2021) of Huntersville, North Carolina won the Boy’s Division with scores of 71-77.
Next weekend will feature the Callaway Golf/Ollie Schniederjans Junior Classic, the AJGA Preview at Champions, the AJGA Preview at Worthington Manor, and the AJGA Junior All-Star presented by Explore York.
