JGTA Class of 2020

The class of 2020 sets a high standard for competitors from the JGTA pursuing U.S. college golf in the graduating classes of 2021, 2022, and so on. Here is a recap of college commitments and successes from the Tour’s class of 2020.

Three competitors from the class of 2020 will be taking their talents to the Pacific-12 Conference this fall. JGTA Bintan Lagoon Junior Championship presented by dwell Student Living champion and 2018 JGTA Girls Junior Player of the Year Camille Boyd of (USA) Shanghai, China as well as Jingfan Deng of Shanghai, China will be competing for the University of Washington. Weilun Song of Harbin, China will join JGTA Alumnus and Pac-12 All-Freshman Yin Ho Yue at the University of Oregon.

AJGA Champion Virginie Ding of China, Hong Kong SAR will be competing for the University of Vanderbilt in the South Eastern Conference (SEC).

“We are very pleased to add Virginie, or Ginnie as she is known, to the Vanderbilt program,” Head Coch Greg Allen said. “She comes from a very impressive family that values a great education. She comes with a strong resume in the classroom, but she’s equally outstanding on the golf course.”

Notable JGTA Alumnus currently competing in the South Eastern Conference is Yu-Ta Tsai, to-be sophomore at the University of Missouri.

Taking her talents to the Patriot League, the first player from the Tour to do so, is JGTA Champion and 2019 JGTA Junior All-Asia Team Member Ieong Sin Kuan of (Macau), Zhuhai China. Kuan won The Southern Junior presented by Tradewinds Furnishing and went on to finish top-10 in two AJGA events in 2019. Come August, she will be competing for Boston University.

The University Athletic Association will see two great competitors from the Tour come the fall of 2020. These competitors are Irene Wang of Beijing, China, and Nga Wun (Tiffany) Wu of China, Hong Kong SAR, competing for Emory University and New York University (NYU). Both Wang and Wu competed on the AJGA circuit last summer and had top-3 finishes in AJGA events.

JGTA Bogor Junior Championship Hosted By Sentul Highlands Golf Club Champion and 2019 JGTA Junior All-Asia Team member Mariel Isabella Tee of Pasig City, Philippines will become the first competitor from the Tour to compete in the America East Conference, at the University at Albany. Tee finished her AJGA career with three top-10’s and a 2nd place finish at the Killington Junior Golf Championship.

Estelle Verny of Bangkok, Thailand will become the first player from the Tour to compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, at the University of Delaware. Verny will join a strong recruiting class in 2020, bringing the hornets their biggest roster to date.

Jiayang Lu of Chengdu, China will compete in the Colonial Athletic Association this fall for William & Mary. Lu finished in the top-10 in AJGA Events twice in the summer of 2019 after finishing 15th on the JGTA Junior Order of Merit. Lu will compete against JGTA Alumnae and University of Richmond Star Wen Qi Zhu of Shanghai, China.

Ke-Ai Liu of New Taipei City, Chinese Taipei made her JGTA debut at the 2018 JGTA Taiwan Junior Championship and will take her talents to Northern Illinois University in the Mid-American Conference this fall. Liu will be competing against 2018 JGTA Junior All-Asia Team Member Smonporn Santadusit of Bangkok, Thailand in the Mid-American Conference, currently competing for Ball State.

Joining the Presidents’ Athletic Conference is Steffi Chern of Hsinchu City, Chinese Taipei, competing for Carnegie Mellon. Chern finished her AJGA career with 3 top-10 AJGA finishes and will become the first competitor from the Tour in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

Tanyatorn Thalangkarn of Chiang Mai, Thailand made her JGTA debut at the 2018 JGTA Phuket Junior Open and will become the first player from the Tour in the Big Sky Conference with Southern Utah University come this fall.
